The PowerTug is a battery-powered electric tug designed to safely move heavy vessels, tanks, and trolleys fitted with all-swivel castors. It is widely used across the pharmaceutical, biotech, food, and chemical industries to move pressure vessels, process and mixing tanks, chromatography columns, reaction vessels, and Textile ‘A’ frames with precision and minimal operator effort.
Tanks and vessels in these industries are typically made from stainless steel and often weigh well over 1,000 kg when fully loaded, making them too heavy to move safely by hand. They are usually fitted with four swivel castors so they can be manoeuvred in confined production areas, but this can cause the load to wander or crab when pushed manually, particularly on uneven floors, slopes, or cambers where drains have been added to collect wash-down residue.
The PowerTug solves this with a telescopic front leg (or legs) fitted with a fixed castor at the end. Once coupled to the vessel, the fixed castor acts as a stable steering point, overriding the swivel castors’ tendency to wander and allowing the load to be moved and positioned accurately regardless of the floor surface.
A powered up/down lift carriage makes connecting to the vessel quick and straightforward, and transfers part of the vessel’s weight onto the PowerTug’s driven wheel. This generates the additional traction needed to move heavy loads smoothly, even on smooth or wet floors.
For cleanroom and pharmaceutical applications, the PowerTug is available in a 316 stainless steel specification, manufactured to a standard suitable for regular wash-down in line with FDA Standards and Guidance.
Indicated load capacity is ultimately subject to the rolling resistance of the load.

The PowerTug is purpose-built for safely moving heavy vessels, tanks, and trolleys that sit on all-swivel castors. It’s commonly used to handle pharmaceutical and biotech vessels, mixing and process tanks, chemical and food vessels, IBCs, Textile ‘A’ frame trolleys, IVC laboratory racks, and similar wheeled loads weighing up to 2,000 kg. While its core market is the pharmaceutical, biotech, food, and chemical industries, the same design also suits any application where a wheeled load needs to be moved with precision in tight spaces or on uneven floors.
Most electric tugs are designed to push or pull loads that have at least one set of fixed wheels. Vessels and tanks, by contrast, typically sit on four swivel castors, which can cause them to wander or crab when being moved, particularly on cambered or uneven floors. The PowerTug solves this with a telescopic front leg (or legs) fitted with a fixed castor, which acts as a stable steering point for the load. An electrically powered up/down lift carriage also transfers some of the vessel’s weight onto the PowerTug’s driven wheel, providing the extra traction needed to move heavy loads accurately and consistently.
Yes. The PowerTug is available in a 316 stainless steel specification, manufactured to a standard suitable for cleanroom use and regular wash-down procedures in line with FDA Standards and Guidance. This makes it widely used across pharmaceutical, biotech, and food production sites where contamination control is critical. The smooth stainless finish resists corrosion from cleaning agents and is easy to keep to a high hygiene standard, and because the machine is fully electric, it produces zero emissions and can be operated safely inside controlled environments.
Yes. An ATEX Zone 1 conversion is available, allowing the PowerTug to be used safely in areas where flammable gases, vapours, or dusts may be present. This makes it a practical option for chemical, pharmaceutical, and process industry sites where vessels often need to be moved within or close to ATEX-rated zones. Because every application is different, we recommend discussing your zone classification, materials, and working environment with us in advance, so the machine can be specified correctly for your site from the outset.
