Pushing cable drums and paper reels

Cable drums are frequently moved through the production process in the Cable Industry from pushing cable drums into and out of winding stations, rolling cable drums from test chambers and safely moving them in storage areas. In the Paper industry, paper reels are moved out of slitters and pushed into wrapping and re-wrap stations on the production line and in the manufacture of Cardboard, paper rolls have to be constantly fed into the corrugator plants.

In all of these industries, cable drums and paper rolls are often pushed manually which poses a risk of back injury and is also very inefficient use of production staff. By introducing one of the Power Pusher Drum Pushers or Paper Roll Pushers, it enables one pedestrian operator to effortlessly push Paper Rolls up to 8 tonnes and Cable Drums up to 60 tonnes through the production line increasing safety and efficiency (up to 120 tonnes by using two machines simultaneously).

Using one of our electric pushers replaces the dangerous practice of ‘flicking’ the rolls or drums with the tines of a forklift or using a much more expensive overhead crane.

Since Power Pushers do not lift these loads, they are not subject to LOLER and because they are pedestrian operated neither are they subject to driving licence regulations – any trained member of the shop floor staff (over 18 years old) may use the machines.

The above indications are based on steel flanged drums, as wooden flanged drums can become distorted in shape over time, making them more difficult to push.
