Hitachi Energy improves safe movement of production trolleys with the Super Power Pusher

Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader with more than a century of engineering heritage, supports the transition to a more sustainable energy system through electrification and digital innovation.

At its facility in Łódź, Poland, Hitachi Energy operates multiple production areas, including power transformer assembly and disassembly, plus equipment used for vacuum drying and oil impregnation processes.

The challenge: moving heavy technological trolleys safely without forklifts

Following an operational incident where a technological trolley wheel came off the rail on a track-based transport system, the trolley could not be moved without using a forklift truck. The team reviewed internal handling processes with a focus on safety, control, and efficiency, and contacted Power Pusher UK to explore a safer way to move heavy loads within the production environment.

The solution: Super Power Pusher electric tug for controlled indoor movement

Hitachi Energy invested in a Super Power Pusher electric tug to manoeuvre technological trolleys through the plant. The trolleys were loaded with aggregates weighing approximately 2,000 to 10,000 kg.

Using a steering arm attachment, operators can guide the trolleys with precision. The compact design and small turning circle also help the tug navigate tight spaces, work around obstacles, and support controlled movement at walking pace across the production floor.

Results: fewer people needed, improved control, less manual effort

With the Super Power Pusher in place, Hitachi Energy reduced the labour required to move fully-loaded trolleys and improved day-to-day handling efficiency.

Marcin Witek, Electrical Design Specialist at Hitachi Energy, said:

“Moving the fully-loaded technological trolleys used to take three people. With the introduction of the Super Power Pusher, the same task can be completed by one pedestrian operator, saving time, resource and effort.

In relation to my initial enquiry, where one of our trolleys got stuck in the track transport system, even if this happened now, the Super Power Pusher has the power to overcome the issue easily. It has been a solid investment and is an invaluable piece of kit for our employees.”
